I Can Put Others First!
. . . Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:39
Winning is more fun than losing! Being chosen first tops being chosen last! When you get to do something first, you may feel important. Many people like to think they are more important than other people in some way, but should Christians think that way, too?
The Bible says, " . . . Honor one another above yourselves" (Romans 12:10). You may win first prize in a contest. That's all right. But if the choice is yours–who goes first in line, who gets the best seat, who takes the first turn in a game–give that place to someone else. Why? That's what Jesus would do.
Many Christians want to do things the way the Lord Jesus would. They try to think of what others need or would like. Other Christians only think of themselves first. Which group of Christians are you like?
Jesus said, "Love each other as I have loved you" (John 15:12). When you love other people, you should want to put them first. This isn't always easy to do. God knows how hard it is, but He's promised to help you. Trust God, the Holy Spirit, to help you to be more like Jesus as He teaches you to put others first.
