Psalms 51:16-17, 2 Corinthians 3: 6,17-18
We are continuing in David’s prayer of repentance after his sin was exposed. During the time between his fall into sin and the confrontation by Nathan the prophet, David must have gone to sacrifice to the Lord. All the singers he assigned were in place, lifting praises to God. He would have brought the priest the lamb or goat that was without blemish, and ceremoniously lifted his hands to heaven in prayer, as the sacrifice burned upon the altar. He may have even brought thank offerings and celebrated one of the feasts of the Lord, all the while knowing in his heart that he was a murderer and adulterer.

Promise
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth [shall be thy] shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; [nor] for the arrow [that] flieth by day; [Nor] for the pestilence [that] walketh in darkness; [nor] for the destruction [that] wasteth at noonday. (Psalm 91:4-6 KJV)
Take refuge in the Lord, O believer! Take courage in His mighty strength! Take comfort in His sure defense! Rejoice in the power of His hand to accomplish good for His people! He is strong and He is loving—so trust in Him and proclaim His truth boldly among the nations! |

Prayer
Perscription
Dear Lord, as citizens of this special nation which with Your help has survived over 200 years, we each have both a privilege and a responsibility. It is our government -- "of the people, by the people, and for the people." We are the ones who choose the future direction for our country. ... Let us put politics aside, as we prayerfully seek Your guidance, let us ask: "Would You want us to choose leaders who will set examples of integrity, dependability, and accountability for our youth and for our citizens? Would You want us to choose leaders who will help us restore the moral climate which our nation has lost?" ... Let us seriously consider whether we really want more government control, leading us to socialism, or whether we want to maintain our freedom. ... Remind us that we are facing a critical time in our history. Let us paraphrase President Kennedy's words: "Let us not ask what our government can do for us, but rather what we can do to improve our government." Help us, Lord, to see that we have often neglected our responsibilities, as citizens, by not seeking Your guidance.
In Jesus' name we pray.
Amen. |
